March 17: All Periods

Test Tomorrow:

Study.

Remember Multiplication basics:
To Start:
  • always make whole numbers into fractions by using the denominator 1
  1. 5 = 5/1
  • Always make mixed numbers into improper fractions (ex. 3 3/5)
  1. multiply whole number by denominator ( 5 x 3 = 15)
  2. add numerator to product ( 15 + 3 = 18)
  3. put sum over denominator ( 3 3/5 = 18/5)
  • Simplify before you multiply
  1. look for numerators that have a common factor with a denominator
  2. Divide both numerator and denominator by same factor.
  3. Continue until there are no common factors between any numerator and denominator

  • Multiply the top times the top (numerator times numerator)
  • Multiply bottom times bottom (denominator time denominator)
Division
  • Same as multiplication for whole and mixed numbers.
  • DROP, SWITCH,FLIP
  1. Drop the 1st number (on left) -> use the same number
  2. Switch division to multiplication
  3. Flip 2nd number (top to bottom, bottom to top )
  4. Continue with multiplication

now multiply: 5 x 5 = 25
6 x 3 = 18

25/18
